Global Reporting Initiative

“GRI is an independent international organization that has pioneered sustainability reporting since 1997. GRI helps businesses and governments worldwide understand and communicate their impact on critical sustainability issues such as climate change, human rights, governance and social well-being. This enables real action to create social, environmental and economic benefits for everyone. The GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards are developed with true multi-stakeholder contributions and rooted in the public interest.”  https://www.linkedin.com/company/global-reporting-initiative-gri/ The GRI was established in 1997 in partnership with the United Nations' Environment Programme (UNEP).

GRI is not an ESG/SDG rating agency. The focus of GRI’s work is on providing sustainability reporting standards and reporting on the achievement of said standards as well as supporting organisations in achieving the standards. A Harvard University report said: “Since its conception in 1999, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has rapidly become the leader among voluntary worldwide reporting systems.”
